[...] Unsurprisingly, one of the leading minimalist voices on the planet was also a yogi. Not a bearded old Hindu guy in a robe but a 20 something New Yorker in designer jeans. Aside from the jeans and the laptop, he gave up all but a few dozen possessions. He’s so minimalist he even gave up minimalism. Of course he’s a yogi: you can’t tell whether he’s insane or divinely inspired. [...]

[...] And finally, as promised I’m doing a followup piece. In prepping for the interview I read the vast majority of Everett’s writing as well as countless other sources on cybernetics, singularity and cyborgs.
Thanks for the post Patty. Good call on the Time article, I actually read that while prepping for the interview and it was really helpful.

From that and the couple of other sources I have read, the singularity movement seems to mostly talk about prediction of what technology will allow us to do even further out in the future. Is that accurate?

To me, that seems different than what Everett talks about, which are new and surprising experiences enabled by technology today.

Those claims of his and others' experiences are what made him stand out to me and made me want to interview him -- if there are others who have been reporting similar experiences pre-2009 or so, I'd love to read more. If so please link!

The problem with Ev Bogue's thoughts on Augumented Humanity / Cyborg is not that they are not new, despite his self-promotion that he is starting a revolution. "Singularity" as it is properly called, and which takes in what Bogue has written about, plus much more, is a well-developed school of thought and practice. Check out the mainstream magazine Time; 10 Feb. 2011 "2045: The Year Man Becomes Immortal" for a more complete overview of where things are headed. http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,2048138-1,00.html

A week after the first smartphones hit the market people were already writing and arguing about how they were augumenting our lives and breaking down new barriers, along with the changing social medias. There are far better reads than Bogue's book ranging from how-to guides to scholarly works. All of which will provide more thought and usefullness than his blog, twitter account or subscription service.

There is a market for someone to pick up and blog about all this, but I would hope they are better writers and thinkers than the what is being offered by Ev Bogue. Sorry, I am not actually a Bogue hater, I just want something better.

I just read in the March 11, copy of "THE WEEK", that a homeless man in New York City was given a cell phone and a twitter account, by a charity to help raise awareness of homelessness. Having amassed more than 3000 followers on Twitter the homeless man asked his followers to help find his daughter whom he hadn't seen in 11 years. Shortly thereafter he received a phone call from his elated daughter as she too had been looking for her father.
So with the power of this "cybernetics communication" we can solve problems that would normally take years.
If only Dick Tracy knew...
