Gear Drive Update

Last week I started a gear drive to raise funds for professional equipment for the Great Adventure. So how’s it going?

Goal: $860

Raised so far: $510 !

That means we’re more than halfway there. That’s great! It’s really amazing to me how many people   are excited by my dream and want to help. I’d like to give hearty thanks to all my incredible donors. You’re bolstering not only my preparedness, but my courage as I get ready.

Thinking back it’s funny. As a 20 year old I always pictured bootstrapping this adventure. And in a way I am. But it’s become clear what a crucial role proper gear plays in any risky adventure—it’s made the difference between defeat and success for explorers, adventurers and wanderers for literally centuries.

An old school backpack and tennies? Might have worked for 20 year old Drew, but probably not for long.

So your donations toward gear, if you’ve already given, are truly a wonderful gift, one that will help me over and over during my quest.

If you haven’t given and you’re thinking about it, every donation helps. There are special thank-you’s: postcards from three cities if you give $50, or a private meditation lesson (plus the post cards) if you give $100. But every gift adds up to bring us closer to the goal, and will make a difference many times during the journey.

Thank you!

And, please, keep in mind, that if we can’t give you donations in money, that if there’s any way we can give you gear and equipment, or other helpful things, please keep an updated list! Never know what I’ll find at my local surplus stores.

My local university has HUGE end of year sales at semester’s end here. I’m going to review your list to see if any students are getting rid of things. You’d be surprised how willing they’d give up/willing to sell their gear when they’re preparing to leave. I’ll email you details later.
